Here are the exclusive shots from the first Press Day at the Auto China in Bejing.

The R400 VW Golf Is Going Into Production

VW have produced the incredible ‘GOLF’ for the past 40 years.

It’s one heck of a machine and now we have heard the great news that they are going into production with the R400.

Why is this such exciting news? BECAUSE it’s a monster!

The four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine has received a modified turbocharger that has a higher maximum charge pressure. This means that the output has been increased by 100 PS (73 kW) and 70 Nm (51 lb-ft) of torque to no less than 400 PS (294 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.

This means that the R400 will accelerate from 0-62 in just 3.9 seconds! That’s Ferrari fast! It’s a full second faster than the Golf R.

It will handle incredibly well too with 4MOTION (VW’s 4 wheel drive system) going through a 6-speed DSG gearbox.

The R400 has an electronically limited top speed of 174mph (250 km/h) which is a serious step up from the Golf R with a 155mph top speed!

With a weight of1,420 kg (3,130 lbs), it weighs the same as the regular R but the body is 20mm wider on both sides as a result of the new flared wheel arches paying tribute to the 1998 Rallye Golf G60.

It’s running 19-inch alloys with a 235/35 R19 tire and boasts a carbon fiber splitter up front and two 110mm centrally positioned exhaust pipes inspired by those fitted to the 2002 Golf R32.
